University of Goettingen / Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry
The project will be based in Stefan Jakobs' laboratory in Goettingen. It involves the use of new fluorescence microscopy technologies (STED, RESOLFT, PALM, STORM, and others) to study fundamental aspects of mitochondrial structure and dynamics (see for example: Jans et al., PNAS, 2013; Wurm et al, PNAS, 2011; Kukat et al, PNAS, 2011; Brakemann et al., Nature Biotech, 2011; Grotjohann et al., Nature, 2011).
We are looking for a biologist or bio-physicist, with interest and fun in the application of super-resolution fluorescence microscopy to study protein distributions on the nanoscale. You should have a master or equivalent level of professional qualification and experience. Previous experience in (mitochondrial) cell biology and/or using fluorescence microscopy is desirable but full training is available.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team using novel and state-of-the-art microscopy to understand mitochondrial biology at the nanometre-scale.
Payment will be according to the German TVoD standard. The position is available immediately.
The Max Planck Society is trying to increase the percentage of women on its scientific staff and strongly encourages applications from qualified women. The Society is also committed to employing more disabled persons and especially encourages them to apply.
