Division
The Vascular Surgery research group is dedicated to translational research on cellular and molecular processes in peripheral vascular disease and stroke, pathogenesis and epidemiology of abdominal aortic aneurysms, vascular repair processes and inflammation in association with interventional procedures and pulmonary hypertension. The group is located at the Center for Molecular Medicine.
Duties
Atherosclerosis with its deleterious consequences such as stroke and myocardial infarction protrude as a major threat to health worldwide. In order to better understand the development and progression of atherosclerosis, our aim is to dissect and explore cellular behaviour and molecular pathways in complex atherosclerotic tissues. For this we have in collaboration with the department of Medicine, assembled a large biobank (BiKE), which consists of more than 700 atherosclerotic lesions from carotid endarterectomies, in combination with plasma, RNA and DNA. The access to BiKE enables analyses of gene and protein expression in the atherosclerotic lesions, in combination with analyses of genetics and clinical parameters. The Vascular Surgery research group consists of clinicians and molecular biologists. In order to expand our in-depth analyses of complex atherosclerotic tissues we are looking for a person with experience in vascular biology research and also in the use of different types of microscopy. The focus of the work will be to isolate and with different molecular biology techniques analyse phenotypically distinct areas and cells of heterogeneic atherosclerotic lesions.
Entry requirements
A person is eligible for a postdoc position if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc.
The applicant needs to be experienced with microscopy and should also master up-to-date molecular biological techniques for isolation and analysis of nucleic acids and protein
The applicant should have a strong interest in biological and medical problems in general and in vascular biology in particular. The applicant should also possess excellent skills in English writing and communication.
