The Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing (MPI-Age) was founded in 2008 for the purpose of understanding fundamental mechanisms of healthy ageing in various model systems. The institute is part of a broad network of research institutions in the Cologne-Bonn area dedicated to research on ageing and age-related disease, constituting a vibrant and collaborative environment for research.
At the moment, we host employees from 27 different nations.
The newly founded research group „Computational RNA Biology and Ageing" headed by Dr. Christoph Dieterich has open bioinformatics positions for
a Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f) and a PhD student (m/f)
(job code 17/2013)
The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic and collaborative bioinformatics team in an excellent scientific environment. The Dieterich Lab is unifying research and service tasks with an emphasis on questions in post-transcriptional gene regulation and ageing. Especially, novel technologies in nucleic acids sequencing, mass spectrometry and imaging provide high-throughput data at an unprecedented depth and level of detail. The Dieterich Lab exploits these data source to leverage and deepen our understanding of post-transcriptional gene regulation on a systemic level.
This project either focuses on method development for the comparative and context-specific analysis of miRNA-RNA and RNA-protein binding and its influence on RNA properties (such as stability) or on systematic data integration (post-transcriptional network analysis and visualization) with a graphical user interface component. Of particular interest to us are applicants who want to study two or more aspects of the list below
• Alternative RNA topologies (i.e. alternative cis and trans splicing)
• Cis-regulatory elements in RNA
• RNA editing
• Combinatorial action of RNA binding proteins and miRNAs on target mRNAs.
• Post-transcriptional networks in disease and ageing
Research environment
The Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing provides an international and vibrant research environment with highly interacting groups as well as state-of-the-art technologies and core facilities. The institute is located in Cologne, one of the most vivid cities in Germany.
The employment contract is based on contracts for the civil service (TVöD-Bund, Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst) and will initially be time limited. The Max Planck Society is committed to employ more disabled individuals and especially encourages them to apply.
