Postdoctoral Position in Molecular/Cellular Immunology

A postdoctoral position is available immediately for a highly motivated candidate with a background in molecular/cellular immunology to join the Laboratory of Immunoregulation at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health.

Our research focuses on understanding molecular pathways of HIV immunopathogenesis, especially those driving immune activation. Patients with HIV infection have elevated levels of soluble markers of inflammation and coagulation such as IL-6, sCD14, and D-dimer (a fibrin degradation product). The increased levels of these biomarkers are associated with increased risk of all-cause mortality such as hepatic, metabolic, renal, and cardiovascular morbidity regardless of HIV RNA levels. These serious non-AIDS-defining illnesses are today the leading cause of mortality/morbidity in patients with HIV infection in the United States. Projects will involve using a murine animal model of infection to study the intersection of coagulation and inflammation with a strong translational component.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. and have strong laboratory and analytical skills, significant experience in molecular/cellular immunology, and good communication and organizational skills.
