PhD in Paediatric Brain Cancer : Melbourne, Australia
Through a generous donation from the Robert Connor Dawes Fund, we are offering a suitable candidate the rare opportunity to study paediatric brain cancer. Despite therapeutic advances, brain cancer remains the most frequent cause of cancer-related morbidity and mortality in childhood and the second leading cause of death in children under 14 in Australia. Survivors are often left with significant neurological deficits. Therefore, there is an urgent to develop new therapeutic strategies.
We are looking for a science or medicine graduate with a strong academic track record who is interested in undertaking a research-based PhD in paediatric brain cancer. We have a particular interest in diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) and ependymoma; however, the successful candidate will be able to work on any aspect of paediatric brain cancer.
The PhD project will be collaborative, and the student will be supervised by both A/Prof Terrance Johns, based at Monash University in Melbourne, and Dr Nick Gottardo, based at the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research in Perth. Both researchers are members of the Brain Cancer Discovery Collaborative (www.monashinstitute.org/the-brain-cancer-discovery-collaborative.aspx).
The applicant can be based in Perth or Melbourne and will have the opportunity to conduct research in both locations. A scholarship and other support, including travel between the two locations, will be provided.
Interested and suitably qualified applicants should forward a covering letter and their CV to A/Prof Terrance Johns (Terry.Johns@monash.edu). …
