Ph.D. – Studentship in Stem Cell Research
for the DFG funded research training program/Graduiertenkolleg GRK1789 “Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms in Aging” (CEMMA) from highly qualified and motivated individuals in the laboratory of Prof. Karin Scharffetter-Kochanek.
CEMMA is a research training program for graduate students with a focus on aging research. In a highly innovative, dynamic and supporting environment, this position allows individuals to become integrally part of a group investigating mechanisms that regulate aging.

The research project will focus on the role of mesenchymal stem cells and progenitor stromal cells of the skin in regeneration and their potential functional decline during aging [J Invest Dermatol 2014, 134:526, Biomaterials 2013, 34:2501, J Clin Invest 2011, 121:985, Aging Cell 2011, 10:239, Blood 2009, 113:5266].
CEMMA has distinct admission rules, a coordinated study plan, intermediate evaluations and inter-disciplinary thesis advisory committees. Improved and in depth knowledge on basic molecular and cellular mechanisms of aging will allow designing rational approaches and therapies that are ultimately aimed at achieving healthy aging.
Your profile:
We are interested in recruiting self-motivated individuals with a desire to further extend the internationally competitive research activities of the laboratories. An appreciation for working with mouse models is required. For foreign applicants, the equivalency of foreign final degrees to the German system is a prerequisite.
