PhD Studentship in Neuroscience : Glasgow, United Kingdom
Intellectual disability occurs in around 1-3% of the general population. It is characterised by deficits in cognitive processing (IQ below 70) and defects in adaptive behaviours. Approximately 10% of intellectual disability is due to mutations in X-linked genes.
This fully-funded PhD studentship will employ a multi-disciplinary approach to explore how knockout of a novel X-linked gene associated with intellectual disability affects cognitive processing, neuronal function and cell pathways. Techniques will include behavioural testing using state-of-the-art equipment, neuronal manipulation and analysis, and cell/molecular approaches.
You will join a research team based in the heart of Scotland. This PhD studentship is only open to UK and EU students. The University of Strathclyde has been named the UK’s University of the Year in the 2012 Times Higher Education Awards.
Informal enquiries should be directed to Dr Luke Chamberlain, email: luke.chamberlain@strath.ac.uk…
