Research Associate: RNA Biology

The appointment will be full time on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £32,699 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

Applications are invited for a Research Associate (post-doctoral) position based at the Institute for Structural and Molecular Biology in the laboratory of Dr Arnvig. The post-holder will be responsible for characterising the regulation and regulons of selected sRNAs associated with infection with M. tuberculosis. The post will involve handling of M. tuberculosis in a BSL3 facility as well as a significant RNA level of work. This field of tuberculosis research is relatively new and the post-holder is expected to be creative and proactive in order to drive this project forward.

This post is available from September 2014 and is funded for 35 months in the first instance.

To be appointed, the successful applicant must have a PhD (or about to be awarded) in Biochemistry/molecular biology or a related subject and a proven track record of high quality research, as well as good knowledge of bioinformatics. Experience in working with M. tuberculosis or similar BSL3 pathogen as well as experience with RNA work is desired.

Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD. If you are about to submit a PhD, the appointment will be at Grade 6B (£28,621 – £30,180 salary, inclusive of London Allowance) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
