The department of Oncology, Hematology and Stem Cell Transplantation at the University of Aachen is offering a position from the 01.10.2014 for
a biologist or immunologist (m/f)
Funding is guaranteed for the duration of two years, with the option for extension. We offer a part time position with 50% of the negotiated hours worked per week. Within our expertise this project focuses on hypoxia signaling in Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPN). MPN are a group of malignant hematopoietic disorders that are characterised by hyperproliferation and the risk of progression to myelofibrosis and acute myeloid leukemia. Despite findings of specific mutations, more information on the pathophysiology of this group of diseases is critically needed, especially as treatment options are still limited. The role of hypoxia signaling in normal hematopoiesis is still controversial, however, there is evidence that hypoxia signaling plays an essential role in malignant hematopoiesis.
Our aim is to investigate the role of hypoxia signaling in MPN from multiple angles with established techniques in vitro and in vivo
- Cell culture expansion of cell lines and primary patient samples under normoxic and hypoxic conditions,
- Inhibitory assays
- Differentiation assays,
- Flow cytometry,
- QRT-PCR,
- Blotting techniques,
- In vivo transplantation assays
We are looking for a motivated and ambitious candidate with:
- A strong background in cell biology
- Experience in vitro cell culture
- Strong interest in hematology and oncology
- Advanced skills in English (spoken and written)
- Experience in stem cell biology and animal models is appreciated
- Willingness for teamwork and reliability is a prerequisite
