Postdoctoral Researcher in molecular genetics of disease resistance : Norwich, United Kingdom
A postdoctoral position is available in the group of Matthew Moscou at the Sainsbury Laboratory to understand the genetic architecture underlying the host species specificity of stripe rust. Using state-of-the-art techniques you will be involved in the identification and cloning of novel resistance genes in barley that are effective against this major disease, with a long-term goal of transferring this resistance into wheat.
We seek an individual with outstanding talent and ability in genetics and molecular biology, a demonstrated record of achievement in academia or industry, and an eagerness to work as part of a collaborative, multi-functional, international team. The successful candidate should have a PhD in Biology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, or Bioinformatics, an interest in plant disease resistance and a desire to see research outcomes reach practical application. An understanding of quantitative genetics, bioinformatics (including high-throughput genomic analysis, next-generation sequencing), obligate biotrophic pathogens, molecular techniques and plant biology would be highly advantageous.
We offer a salary within the UEA Research and Analogous staff Grade 7 scale at between £30,728 and £38,907; however, the appointment level will reflect qualifications, skills, knowledge and achievements.
The position will initially be a two-year appointment with possibility for further renewal based on performance
