PhD position - Immunology-Genetics : Calgary, Canada
We have great pleasure in inviting applications for one PhD candidate as part of the Immunology and IBD/Hepatology programs at the Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases at the University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. These positions are funded as part of a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) signature initiative team grant to integrate genetic susceptibility, disease immunology and environmental factors to decipher the pathogenesis of IBD, Autoimmune Liver Disease (AIH/PSC) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). These projects will involve amongst others basic immunology in animal models, intra-vital imaging (Calgary Live Cell Imaging Facility), translational work using human samples and various levels DNA sequencing. The candidates will work under the guidance of the main PIs which include Dr Bertus Eksteen (Lead-PI), Dr Paul Beck, Dr Subrata Ghosh, Dr Mark Swain, Dr Gil Kaplan and Dr Cheryl Barnabe and our collaborators Dr Paul Kubes, the Sanger Institute (UK) and the Beijing Genome Institute.
These posts offer high level support as part of a prestigious grant to enable very talented individuals to obtain a PhD. Potential PhD candidates must be eligible for registration in the Immunology (MDIM) or GI science programs (MDGI) (GPA of 3.3); must have a MSc degree; minimum TOEFL score of 600 or equivalent (http://medicine.ucalgary.ca/gse).
