Postdoctoral fellow (m/f) (Mannheim)

The University Medical Center Mannheim is operating as a maximum service general hospital with a broad spectrum of diagnostic and therapeutic resources. More than 4500 employees are conducting an annual medical inpatient treatment for more than 70000 patients and numerous outpatient visits. The medical faculty is part of the 600-year-old University of Heidelberg. Scientific activities, including basic and clinical research, are reflected by numerous scientific publications, as well as conferences and seminars organized by its members.

Postdoctoral fellow (m/f)

The position is available from September 1st, 2014, for initially 3 years. Closing date for application will be August 15th, 2014.

Human Noroviruses are, especially in children, the dominant cause of outbreaks of gastroenteritis worldwide. There are no human norovirus antivirals or sufficient vaccines available, largely because the viruses cannot be grown in cell cultures. The objective of our research group is to better understand the pathogenesis of human norovirus infection and to develop an oligosaccharide-based protection. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, with good experience in working with norovirus, as well as in molecular and cellular biology.

Applicants should have the following skills:
        a special interest in the field of norovirus research / molecular biology / cellular biology and a special  expertise regarding work with noroviruses, cell culture work and molecular biology techniques.
        experience in working in an internationally competitive scientific environment
        an independent approach for research projects regarding pathogenesis of Norovirus infections
        willingness and expertise regarding the acquisition of research funds
        a completed PhD/ MD
