Postodtoral Fellow : Houston, TX, United States

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Curtis R. Pickering in the Department of Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center. The laboratory is focused on translational genomics of head and neck cancer. Our approach is to begin with the genomic alterations present in patient tumor samples, use that information to learn about the biology of head and neck tumor cells, and translate that understanding back to the clinic to improve treatment for patients. A postdoctoral research project will likely involve all aspects of this process but focus primarily on using functional genomics and cell and molecular biology techniques to study the tumorigenic mechanisms of key genes in head and neck cancer. Our primary model systems are cancer cell lines, but projects may include PDX models and mouse xenografts.

A PhD, a strong background in cell and molecular biology, and experience with mammalian cell culture is required. Experience with primary cell culture, 3-dimensional cell culture, confocal microscopy, and computational biology is a plus. Knowledge of squamous differentiation signaling is also desirable. Applicants must have a strong work ethic and self-motivation. They must also have excellent English communication skills and be open to collaborations both inside and outside our institution.
