The Dept. of Pharmacology at the School of Medicine at the University of Western Sydney (Australia) offers Ph.D. projects in the area of drug discovery for Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Students are invited to apply for an International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) which provides tuition fees and a scholarship for a minimum of 3 years. The following PhD project is available: Evaluation of plant-based anti-inflammatory drugs in mouse models of AD-related brain inflammation. Admission to the program is based on a competitive selection procedure. Applicants require a BSc degree in biology, biochemistry or a related area with excellent undergraduate marks, and a MSc with a strong research component. Knowledge one or more of these areas is desired: electrophysiology, rodent behavioural testing, confocal microscopy, stereology (Stereoinvestigator, Neurolucida), imaging techniques (MRI, DTI) and histological/anatomical techniques. Publications in peer-reviewed journals are an advantage.
