Biomaterials/Cartilage Regeneration : Beijing , China
The Ge Lab at Peking University has an immediately available postdoctoral position for the development of functional biomaterials for cartilage regeneration. Our laboratory is located in the College of Engineering, which includes state-of-the-art biological sciences and engineering research facilities. Our research is centred on cartilage biology, functional biomaterials and stem-cell based approaches to promote cartilage engineering.
Research Focus and Ongoing Projects
1. Functional biomaterials for cartilage engineering: Our group is working towards developing scaffolds with functionality to promote articular cartilage engineering. This work will give a fundamental understanding of how material design may provide biological and mechanical cues in directing cell behaviour and subsequent tissue growth.
2. Stem-cell based approach to cartilage repair: We are exploring the use of mesenchymal stem cells in promoting chondrogenic differentiation in 3D pellet cultures in vitro in the presence of peptides. Using this understanding will lead to the possibility of designing biological tools for cartilage engineering.
3. Chondrocyte behaviour and ECM maturation of de novo cartilage: We are interested in understanding how biological molecules, cytokines, vitamins, minerals and microenvironment influence chondrocytes and cartilaginous extra cellular matrix in vitro. For example we are using glucosamine and vitamin C to investigate the effect on cell morphology and proliferation, ECM deposition and maturation. This work will be extended to further study the link between other key biomolecules, microenvironment and ECM maturation. Recently, we have also investigated the effect of electric field on chondrocyte behaviour.
We are seeking applicants with a PhD in cell biology, tissue engineering/regenerative medicine, biomedical science or related topics. Experience in cell culture, fluorescence and confocal microscopy, gene expression and protein analysis is preferred; knowledge in stem cell differentiation and tissue engineering is an advantage. Applicants must design experiments, prepare study results for publication and supervise/train graduate and undergraduate students in the laboratory. Independent, structured and focused way of working is essential.
We offer an interesting and challenging job environment in our group with high value terms of employment. You will become part of a global network of dedicated professionals committed to innovation and excellence in scientific research.
If you feel you meet the requirements of this challenging opportunity, please email your complete application (motivation letter, CV, reference letters) with photo to Professor Zigang Ge: gez@pku.edu.cn…
