Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Bioengineering : Fairfax, VA, United States
Description:
The Department of Bioengineering in the Volgenau School of Engineering (VSE) at George Mason University is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to utilize microfluidics approaches and investigate early breast cancer metastasis events as well as fundamental cell cycle regulation mechanisms at the single cell level. The ongoing projects at the Microfluidic Single Cell Analysis Laboratory (directed by Dr. Nitin Agrawal) integrates microscale technologies and state-of-the-art imaging techniques to study various aspects of cancer progression including live cell-cycle analysis, Circulating tumor cell-endothelium interaction and cell migration. Development of PDMS based microfluidic devices for point-of-care diagnostics as well as fundamental research complements strengths and goals of the laboratory. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be actively involved in pursuing and developing collaborative research with the Neuroscience Department at GMU, Inova Fairfax Hospital, National institute of Health and Georgetown University. In addition to undertaking research projects, responsibilities will include extensive scientific writing and mentoring graduate/undergraduate students.

The applicant should further have: (1) experience in cell culture and microfabrication techniques (2) expertise in fluorescent microscopy, data acquisition, image analysis and/or design & modeling of microscale geometries (e.g., COMSOL, AutoCAD, etc.) and (3) a strong interest and potential to conduct interdisciplinary research. Applicants with prior experience in microfluidics and experimental cancer research will be given highest preference. Candidates must possess strong biological experience and evidence of success will also be considered. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will not only be expected to participate in existing research projects but also encouraged to bring his/her expertise into the research project.
The position is available immediately and is expected to start as soon as possible but will remain open until fulfilled. Salary will be commensurate according to NIH guidelines.
The laboratory is located in the Krasnow Institute for Advanced Study building at George Mason University Fairfax campus.
