PhD position for studying cardiac development and regeneration : Cologne, Germany
We are seeking a PhD Student with a background in development biology to study cardiac development and regeneration using zebrafish, mice and complementary human pluripotent stem cell differentiation systems as models. Prior experience on cardiac development/regeneration using zebrafish system would be advantageous. Interfacing fundamental developmental biology, stem cell biology and translational research, the mission of the project is to gain deeper understanding of cardiac development and regeneration at the molecular level. The successful candidate should be highly motivated, ambitious and prepared to integrate into an enthusiastic team in an outstanding scientific environment.
The position will start no later than 1st of November 2014 for a period of 3-4 years in the Independent Research Group of Dr. Leo Kurian (PhD)

The group is affiliated to the Department of Neurophysiology and located at the Centre for Molecular Medicine (ZMMK), part of the University of Cologne.
Qualified applicants should
. have a Master degree in biological sciences (or equivalent)
. be proficient in zebrafish biology, preferably in the context of cardio-vascular
development/ regeneration
. be willing to learn differentiation systems based on human pluripotent stem cells
