Fellowships for PhD students, Hannover School for Biomolecular Drug Research (Hannover)

Hannover School for Biomolecular Drug Research

The newly founded Graduate School “Hannover School for Biomolecular Drug Research” (HSBDR) will provide interdisciplinary training in three different areas (chemistry, biology and medicine) both in applied as well as fundamental research focused on small molecule anti-infective and anti-tumor agents and their characterization through microbiology and cellular biology. The structure of the HSBDR consists of specific training courses on biomolecular drug research, a seminar series and scientific colloquia in an international atmosphere. All teaching and research is carried out in English. This program will be funded by the government of Niedersachsen with

15 Fellowships (3 years).

The monthly allowance will be 1400 € with the possibility for additional funding if the applicant is married and/or has children.

The institutional basis for the HSBDR will be the Centre of Biomolecular Drug Research (BMWZ) which was established as an interdisciplinary research centre at the Leibniz Universität Hannover. It houses research groups working in the fields of chemistry, biology and medicine. As part of the Translational Alliance in Lower Saxony (TrAiN) working on establishing an innovative academic approach towards drug research, the HSBDR is looking for PhD students with sound knowledge in organic synthesis, microbiology, biotechnology, cell biology and biochemistry. A commitment for interdisciplinary research and the willingness to cooperate in joint projects of the partners is a prerequisite.

The individual projects can be found on the webpage of the program:

http://www.hsbdr.uni-hannover.de/

When applying, candidates should indicate not more than three projects of interest in decreasing order.

The start of the program will be October 1st, 2014. Females are preferentially chosen if equally qualified to increase the share of female fellows. If equally qualified, disabled persons will be chosen first.

The program is a joint initiative of the Leibniz Universität Hannover, the Technische Universität Braunschweig, the Helmholtz Center for Infection Diseases in Braunschweig, Hannover Medical School and the Twincore in Hannover. Depending on the project, fellows will be working either in Braunschweig or in Hannover.

Applications should be addressed only by Email to the speaker of the program, Prof. Dr. Markus Kalesse, Institut für Organische Chemie, Leibniz Universität Hannover, 30167 Hannover. Email: Markus.Kalesse@oci.uni-hannover.de. The deadline for application is September, 30th.
