Postdoctoral Fellow position in Microbiology at KAUST

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) (www.kaust.edu.sa) is seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral scientist to develop molecular tools for environmental investigation. Individuals with a Ph.D. and a strong background in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply: microbiology, bacterial genetics and molecular and cellular biology. Prior experience in environmental genomics is highly preferred. Applicants must be able to learn and develop new skills as required for the studies. The successful applicant will play a crucial role in providing experimental data to the strong computational team in the Bajic lab at Computational Bioscience Research Center (CBRC, www.cbrc.kaust.edu.sa) at KAUST for projects that relate to metabolic pathway engineering and synthetic biology.

Requirements
• Major in Microbiology or Biotechnology. Experience with metagenomic, metatranscriptomic, and general microbiology techniques.
• Excellent experimental and organizational skills. 
• Expertise in microbial isolation and associated techniques focused on marine and terrestrial environments (sediment, seawater, biofilm, and others), microbial identification.
• Experience in Molecular Biology, various OMICS techniques and metabolic engineering.
• Experience in extraction and preparation of high molecular weight genetic materials for deep sequencing would be advantageous.
• Focus on cultivation of oligotrophic bacterioplankton, environmental genomics and comparative genomics, and extremophiles/halophiles would be advantageous. 
• Report writing and data presentation (power point) is essential.
• Independent, mature and have a genuine interest in doing science and assisting graduate (Ph.D. and M.S.) students.
• Diving certification and ability to participate in field trips is advantageous.
• Experience in experimental design is essential.
